The Westmorland Damson Association was formed in April 1996 by a group of local people who wished to preserve the damson orchards in the old County of Westmorland, especially in and around the Lyth Valley.
Objectives of the Association are:
- to restore the Westmorland damson orchards to their former glory
- to promote the cultivation and use of Westmorland damsons
- to further and safeguard the interests of damson growers in the district
- to extend the market for Westmorland damsons and damson products
- to maintain a body of information available to members concerning horticultural, culinary and beverage matters
- to afford opportunity for discussion and debate
And if requested:
- to advise and arrange training in horticultural and culinary aspects of damsons
- to organise excursions to horticultural research stations and other damson growing areas
Any interested person may join as a full member of the Association, and will then receive at least three newsletters per year and have free entrance to events arranged by the Association. The membership fee is £7.00 per person per annum or £10.00 per couple per annum.
Please CONTACT the WDA if you would like to become a member.
The 2008 Annual General Meeting will take place on MONDAY 30th JUNE at The Damson Dene Hotel, Crosthwaite on the A5074 (Windermere Road)
Time: 7.00pm for 7.30pm
